SVETLOPÁD (LIGHTFALL)

2010
TABAČKA, Košice, SK

H 3,2m W 5m L 10m
transparent plastic foil, aluminium foil, theater lamps

The exposition space of TABAČKA is a former factory hall. Its characteristic features are the arched ceiling vaults, three typical factory windows (with small square glass plates in a metal grid) and a massive iron beam running along the center of the room, supported by four industrial iron pillars. Fascinating is the perfect symmetry of the space: the columns are spaced two arched vaults apart, the windows are centered in between them.
The architectural sculpture SVETLOPÁD is situated in between the middle columns. From each side of the window there are four surfaces of transparent shiny foil stretched towards the columns, all the way from the floor to the ceiling. Together they form a closed funnel. Overlapping foil strips create the effect of rays.
On the border where the funnel touches the columns, the floor and the ceiling, the material and the shape of the installation abruptly changes. The columns, the ceiling arches, the floor and the opposite wall are silvery and reflecting, coated with alluminium foil. Respecting the natural boundaries of the original architecture - the edges of the ceiling vaults - a square silver space has been formed.
Every detail, inequality, gaps stands out - the structure of the walls, the floor and the columns are highlighted. The light that falls from the window (during the day daylight / at night artificial light). travels through the transparent shiny funnel forming radial reflections. It is collected in the silver light tub in between the two pillars, where it reflects and fractures.
